Welcome to james.media
This is my little place on the internet. It isn’t meant to be perfect. It’s somewhere for me to share my thoughts, post photos from my travels, and talk about what I’m working on. It’ll keep changing as I do.
Data and privacy
You can find a full breakdown of the data collected by this website and how it is stored, by visiting the site's Privacy Policy.
Hosting
This website is hosted in Sweden, on a low-carbon grid.
The site runs on Upsun in Stockholm, Sweden, one of their green regions. Sweden’s electricity comes mostly from hydro, wind and nuclear power, so the grid’s carbon intensity is around 26 gCO₂eq/kWh. That’s a fraction of most European grids.
The hosting platform is certified to PCI DSS, SOC 2 and ISO 27001, the recognised standards for keeping data and systems secure.
I also try to keep the site light: compressed WebP images, self-hosted fonts and as little JavaScript as I can get away with. Every byte not sent is energy not spent.
Photos you can reuse
Wherever I can, I release photos I’ve taken here under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). You’re free to use them, including commercially, as long as you:
- credit me: “Photo: James Hall, james.media”;
- link to the licence;
- say if you’ve changed the photo.
This doesn’t cover photos taken by other people, which are credited where they appear. It also doesn’t cover photos where people can be identified, or logos and other trademarks in the frame. If you’re unsure about a photo, get in touch.
Built in the open
The site is built with Drupal and utilising the Drupal Canvas page building experience.
The site runs on a Drupal Canvas compatible theme which I designed and built with assistance from the AI service Claude by Anthropic.
Credits for the fonts and open-source tools the theme uses are listed in the theme’s licence notes.
